What is Profi.ly?

Profi.ly is a web-based utility that allows you to consolidate your online identity. Profi.ly is essentially a profile URL shortening service.

How does Profi.ly work?

Once you register for the service we ask you to provide your profile identifiers and the name of the network you want to direct people to. After you provide the profile identifier people can begin accessing your sites based on a single username and network code. If you'd prefer to allow people to choose the networks on which to connect with you, simply link them to your network directory by not including the network code on the web address.

We don't ask for any password information and we do not require access to an account for the service to work.

How do I distribute my Profi.ly identity?

You can distribute you're Profi.ly identity in the same manner you typically connect with people. You can include it in your email signature, include a link on your blog and easily write it for people in passing.

How do I know how what the network short codes are?

As a general practice, you can access user profiles by using the entire network name. For example, you could connect with Nathan at http://profi.ly/nathan/twitter/ where twitter is the network name. In order to facilitate shorter web addresses, we've created a set of 'short codes'. Using the previous example, you could also connect with Nathan on Twitter at http://profi.ly/nathan/tw/ where tw is the short code. You can access a current list of the Profi.ly short codes on the Network Codes page.

If there is a network you'd like to see that we haven't already included, please use the contact page to let us know. Be sure to include the network name, a short code suggestion and possibly even a link to your profile.

What if I don't want to specify a network for friends to connect on?

We've got that covered too. If you want to allow your peeps to pick and choose which networks they're willing to be seen with you as a friend, route them to your user directory. The user directory is accessed by leaving off the network short code and displays a list of all the networks you've linked to Profi.ly. Check out Nathan's directory as an example - http://profi.ly/nathan/.

Does Profi.ly store my connections for me?

No. Profi.ly helps facilitate the connection but we don't access any of your social networks in order to maintain who you've connected with. We're simply the middleman getting you from point A (handing out your information) to point B (connecting with people).
